Bas Relief Workshop

Jim’s workshop will focus on the importance of light and its relationship to forms in relief.
Jim will help you understand your sculpture tools, clay and subject and how best to use
them to create an interpretation of what we see. A special emphasis will be placed on the
projection of the relief and how to achieve a shortened three dimensional lifelike
rendition of a two dimensional subject.  Your model will be a photograph.  Jim will provide
several from which you may choose. Demonstrations on the importance of the form and
the relationships of the forms to one another will be conducted.  As there will be a
maximum of 10 students in the workshop, intense personal instruction will be augmented
with critiques and PowerPoint presentations showing the work of various artists (both
contemporary and historical). All skill levels are welcome.  We will be working with oil
base clay … plastilina.
